Meet Our Chapter

Welcome to Our Orlando Chapter Page!

In 2003, the Safe Families for Children movement began in Chicago. Our goal then and now is to engage families via faith communities to open their homes to care for vulnerable children. Safe Families for Children exists to help support families in crisis by mobilizing local, compassionate volunteers. We provide everything from emotional encouragement and tangible needs for parents in crisis, to temporary hostings for their children.

Who We Serve

Safe Families for Children comes alongside those in need by offering a variety of services and resources. Safe Families is not foster care. Parents remain in custody of their children while equipped and screened volunteers welcome the family’s children into their homes. Some challenges our families may be experiencing include:
  • drug or alcohol addiction
  • general lack of support
  • hospitalization or medical emergency
  • domestic violence
  • financial instability
  • lack/loss of housing
  • incarceration of a parent
  • unexpected unemployment
  • Postpartum depression

Other Ways We Can HelpĀ

Safe Families for Children collaborates with local agencies and referral sources to offer parents the most support possible. We also have volunteers that are trained and able to help in other areas outside of providing a Hosting arrangement. Our Resource Friends and Family Friend volunteers offer:

  • friendship, encouragement and emotional support
  • tangible needs such as furniture and clothing
